Optimal Phosphorus Management

ATI® Essential Phospho is a specialized component of the ATI® Essentials System designed to prevent phosphate and phosphorus deficiencies in reef aquariums. While reef keepers often focus on lowering nutrients, phosphorus is actually a fundamental building block for coral biomass development. A complete deficiency can lead to "nutrient bottoming," resulting in rapid tissue loss (RTN/STN) and a collapse of the coral's metabolic processes.

Essential Phospho allows for the controlled and precise elevation of phosphate levels to maintain a healthy biological balance.

Why Phosphorus is Critical

In modern, high-performance reef systems—especially those utilizing oversized protein skimmers, carbon dosing, or refugiums—phosphorus can become a limiting factor.

  • Biomass Development: Corals require phosphorus for the creation of DNA, cell membranes, and energy transfer (ATP).

  • Target Range Maintenance: Essential Phospho is designed to help you maintain a stable phosphate level within the ideal reef range of 0.03–0.1 mg/l (ppm).

  • Preventing Tissue Loss: By avoiding absolute phosphorus limitation, you protect stony corals from the rapid tissue necrosis often associated with ultra-low nutrient environments.

  • System Stability: Supports the natural microbial community, ensuring that the biological filtration system has the nutrients required to process nitrogen effectively.

The ATI® Essentials System Advantage

  • Laboratory Precision: Formulated to integrate seamlessly with the ATI® Essentials philosophy of pharmaceutical-grade purity.

  • Controlled Dosing: Provides a predictable increase in phosphate levels, allowing for micro-adjustments without the risk of overshooting.

  • Pure Formula: Contains high-purity phosphate sources without unwanted contaminants or heavy metals.

Dosage & Application

  • Standard Dosage: 1 ml increases the phosphate level by 0.015 mg/l (ppm) per 100 liters (26 gal).

  • Target Level: Aim for a stable range of 0.03–0.1 mg/l (ppm).

  • Managing Limitations: If your system is severely phosphorus-limited, the added phosphate may be consumed almost instantly by corals and bacteria. In these cases, it is recommended to dose several times a day until the levels stabilize.

  • Concentration: The bottle contains a total of 750 mg of phosphate.
