Nyos Floating Fish Trap

The NYOS Floating Fish Trap provides a stress-free way to catch fish without removing rock or draining water. Its magnetic release and bait chamber allow quick, safe capture of aggressive, sick or injured fish for relocation, quarantine or treatment. Trapping vs. net capture minimizes disruption to the reef and prevents damage to coral or rock work, as well as stress or injury to fish.

With conventional fish traps, catching fish is complicated since the mechanism for catching the fish usually has to be activated via a line in the aquarium and a mechanical door. With the Nyos^® FLOATING FISH TRAP^® a simple magnetic release is all that's needed, an air body at the opening of the trap ensures a quick 90 degree turn and the trap and the fish will float to the surface for collection.

 Release Up Close Or From Afar

The fish trap is held on place on the aquarium using an interior and exterior magnet. This enables it to be located where ever is least intrusive. Placement  close to the surface of the water allows even fine food requiring a pipette to be conveniently added (pipette is included with the kit).

Releasing the trap can be done by pulling off the exterior magnet either by hand or with an attached line.

• How does the floating magnetic mechanism work?

  The trap secures to your aquarium wall using a strong two-part magnetic holder (interior and exterior). When you release the external magnet—either by hand or via an attached line—an integrated air body at the opening instantly tilts the trap 90 degrees upward and floats it to the surface, securing your catch safely inside.

• What size fish can this trap safely catch?

  The entrance opening measures 2.8 in. (72 mm) in diameter, making it ideal for small-to-medium reef fish up to approx. 2.5–3 in. (6–8 cm) in height or body depth.

• What is the maximum glass thickness supported by the magnet?

  The included magnetic holder is engineered to hold securely on glass or acrylic aquariums up to 1/2 in. (12 mm) thick (or 5/8 in. / 15 mm on reinforced models).

• Will this trap stress my fish or disrupt my reef aquascape?

  No. Unlike traditional hand-nets or mechanical door traps, the clear, rounded body blends into the water column. You can leave it anchored in the tank for a few days so fish acclimate to its presence without disturbing your rockwork or delicate corals.

• How do I bait the fish into entering the trap?

  The trap includes a feeding pipette that lets you drop target foods (mysis, pellets, or liquid foods) directly into the bait chamber at the rear. Fish enter naturally to feed without realizing they are inside a trap.
