Why Potassium (K) is Essential

Potassium is a major element in seawater that is often overlooked compared to Calcium or Alkalinity, yet it is vital for the metabolic health of a reef.

• Coral Coloration: Potassium is essential for the vivid pigmentation of stony corals. A deficiency often leads to pale colors, particularly in pink, purple, and blue Acropora and Montipora species.

• Invertebrate Vitality: Crustaceans require potassium for successful molting and fluid movement. In snails, low levels can lead to reduced mucus production and overall lethargy.

• Metabolic Function: It plays a key role in the transport of nutrients within coral tissue and the maintenance of osmotic pressure.
