Why Vanadium (V) is Essential

Vanadium is a trace element that plays a subtle but vital role in the biological development of corals and associated reef organisms.

• Vibrant Coloration: Vanadium is linked to the intensity of coral pigments. A deficiency often results in pale or "washed out" colors, particularly in stony corals.

• Sponge Growth: Many marine sponges utilize vanadium in their metabolic processes. Systems with low vanadium often see a stagnation or reduction in the growth of beneficial sponges.

• Biological Utility: It acts as a cofactor in various enzymatic reactions that contribute to the overall metabolic efficiency of the reef holobiont.

• Common Causes of Deficiency: Vanadium is easily removed by aggressive protein skimming, activated carbon, and other chemical adsorbers. It is also rapidly consumed during periods of strong stony coral growth or may be underrepresented in standard salt mixes.

• Concentration: The bottle contains 75,000 µg of vanadium.

• Standard Dosage: 1 ml per 100 liters (26 gal) increases the vanadium content by 5 µg/l.

• Safe Daily Limits: Increase vanadium by a maximum of 1.5 µg/l (0.3 ml per 100 liters) per day.
