Why Iron (Fe) is Essential

Iron is a fundamental trace element that acts as a catalyst for numerous biological and metabolic processes within a marine ecosystem.

  • Photosynthesis & Color: Iron is critical for photosynthetic performance. A deficiency results in reduced color depth and stunted growth in both corals and macroalgae.

  • Refugium Health: It is essential for the vitality of macroalgae (such as Chaetomorpha); a deficiency often leads to a complete growth stop in the refugium.

  • Metabolic Support: Iron is a core component of many enzymes and cellular metabolic processes that keep reef inhabitants healthy.
