ION-B ALK/PH+

ION-B ALK/PH+ powder mix creates a concentrated solution for increasing alkalinity and stabilizing pH. It is part of the Nyos® ION-B method.

Modern 2-Part

The Nyos® ION-B method is a state-of-the-art dosing system for modern reef tanks. The system is simple and intuitive and can be individually adapted to the needs of your aquarium.

With just two solutions you can:

  • Replace used calcium, magnesium and alkalinity
  • Prevent ion shift
  • Stabilize the pH between 8.0-8.3
  • Replace and adjust all trace elements to your tank’s needs

671g unit makes 3,000ml (101 fl. oz.) solution and contains 30.000 dKH

1,342g unit makes 6,000ml (203 fl. oz.) solution and contains 60.000 dKH

  • Increases alkalinity and stabilizes pH
  • Also contains sulfate, bromine and fluorine for ion balancing

Instructions:

  • 671g unit: Dissolve entire contents in 2.9 liters (98 fl. oz.) of RO water. This results in 3,000ml (101 fl. oz.) of ALK/PH+ solution.
  • 1,342g unit: Dissolve entire contents in 5.75 liters (194 fl. oz.) of RO water. This results in 6,000ml (203 fl. oz.) of ALK/PH+ solution
  • Dosage should replenish daily consumption of alkalinity
  • 1,000ml (34 fl. oz.) of ION-B ALK/PH+ contain approx. 10,000 dKH
  • Guideline for dosage: 5-10ml/day per 100 L (25 gal) of tank water

Note

Alkalinity and Calcium are consumed by corals in a ratio of about 1:7. The ION-B solutions are also in a ratio of 1:7, so dosing should be equal amounts of both solutions.

Stony corals constantly consume alkalinity (carbonate hardness) and calcium to build their calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) skeletons. To sustain this calcification, corals require approximately 7 mg of calcium for every 1° dKH of alkalinity. In many traditional two-part methods, calcium and carbonate are added via calcium chloride and sodium (bi)carbonate. Over time, the leftover sodium and chloride ions accumulate, causing a gradual shift in the overall seawater matrix—a phenomenon known as ion shift.

This imbalance degrades water quality, depletes critical elements like sulfate or potassium, and often triggers "old tank syndrome." While frequent water changes can dilute this effect, they cannot prevent it.
